Sometimes you just have to do whatever it takes! This is a quick video blog from out on a South African Golf Course. Despite being the middle of December it is blowing a gale and pelting with rain. You can’t see the rain in this video but all of the pelting noises is fast rain smashing into the camera. My goal of daily exercise continues, despite the unfavourable conditions. What conditions do you use an excuse? And what could you do to push through and have what you want for yourself?
A question that comes up a lot is “How can I get the life that I want?” and the answer is surprisingly simple. There are a few key ingredients that go into making the difference between having the life that you want, and having something else entirely. With your permission I am going to share a few NLP based ideas with you that, when you implement them, will put you well on your path to having the life that you want.
What is it that you want?
This may seem like an over simplification but so many people never get really clear (and specific) about what it is that they want. Do you want to be fitter? How much fitter? Could you do a specific fitness event (The fitness for a marathon is very different to the fitness needed to run for 5 minutes on a treadmill) or would you weigh a certain amount OR would you be able to wear a certain pair of jeans that don’t fit anymore? GET SPECIFIC. And write it down.
Focus on what you want!
It isn’t enough to just work out what you want, write it down and then forget about it. If you want it to happen quickly then you need to start focusing on it. How you do this is totally up to you. Maybe you will create a vision board with pictures representing what you want. Maybe you will keep a public journal of your progress on Facebook. Maybe you will have a Coach to keep you accountable. The more you focus on what you want, the faster you will get the life that you want – it is that simple.
Take ACTION
This is the most important ingredient. Taking Action means doing things (Often on a daily basis) to take you closer and closer to what you want. Want to be wealthier? Start today and start putting some of your earnings towards savings, investments or paying off debt. Want to be healthier? Change your eating habits and consult a fitness expert. Want a better relationship? Start doing whatever it is that you need to do to take yourself towards a stronger relationship. If you don’t know what to *do* then the chances of doing it aren’t very high so be sure to seek assistance for an expert if needed.
Once you pull these three components together you are on the fast track to having the results that you want. There is very little that you can’t have if you are prepared to put in the time, effort and work to obtain it. Use these tips and you will be there before you know it.
Have you ever felt ABSOLUTELY sure that something were going to happen? Can you tell the difference between how it feels to ‘try’ and do something versus when you ‘know’ you are going to do something? This post is a story about Wendy, an inspiring woman I met while teaching in Melbourne earlier this year, what her certainty brought her and how you can harness certainty for yourself.
When I was last in Melbourne I was co-presenting a NLP Practitioner Training with Life Puzzle to a group of really motivated small business owners. One of those people was Wendy, the creator of Think for Fitness. She has a burning passion for all things related to fitness. During some of the group discussions it became clear how much respect and admiration Wendy has for Michelle Bridges, the Personal Trainer of Biggest Loser TV Fame. The week after the Training I received an email from a sporting retailer that was running a competition where the winner would be flown to Sydney for a personal training session with Michelle Bridges. I forwarded the email on and the rest is history – Wendy took massive action to meet the competition entry requirements and just yesterday she found out that she won!!! Her husband and her are soon to be boarding a plane to Sydney for a Personal Training session with one of Wendy’s role models. How awesome is that?
When I spoke to Wendy yesterday about her news it was amazing just how certain she was that she was going to win. From the moment that my email to her arrived she was 100% congruent that she was going to be the winner of this competition. She told many of her clients and friends. And most importantly she took action to enter the competition. But from the very beginning she was without a shadow of a doubt that she was going to be the one winning that competition.
This is interesting because when using the Time Line TherapyTM Techniques for goal setting one of the most crucial steps is checking how certain someone is about a goal in their future. When someone is 100% certain and congruent about their goals it makes a huge difference in terms of the likelihood of them achieving that goal. On the surface this may not make much sense but here is the thing: Any uncertainty or doubt is a signal of a limiting decision or belief in the Unconscious Mind. So if you set out to double your income, yet you’re uncertain whether that goal is even possible, it means that your Unconscious Mind is probably holding a decision or a belief that will make realising that goal hard (or maybe even impossible). If you set out to lose weight, find your ideal partner or run a marathon and there are any doubts and uncertainty… same thing!
The good news is that Time Line TherapyTM Techniques are incredibly powerful and fast at finding those limiting beliefs and decisions in your Unconscious Mind. Plus once they are discovered they can easily be let go (normally in less than 15 minutes for most decisions/beliefs). These techniques are all taught during our NLP Practitioner Certification Training, the same course Wendy was attending, or alternatively you could work with a coach trained in these techniques.
So pause for a moment: What is one of your major goals right now? And on a scale of 1 to 10 (Where 0 is how certain you feel about flying to the moon tomorrow and 10 is how certain you feel about the sun rising tomorrow) how certain are you about that goal? And if you’re answering anything less than a 10, assuming you care about achieving that goal, then when would now be a good time to make an appointment with your coach or learn these techniques for yourself? As always, I love to hear from you so feel free to drop me a Facebook message or an email: lloyd@confidentfuture.com.au
This is a light hearted post following a recent email that I thought you may like.
If you can start the day without caffeine,
If you can be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,
If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles,
If you can eat the same food every day and be grateful for it,
If you can understand when your loved ones are too busy to give you any time,
If you can take criticism and blame without resentment,
If you can conquer tension without medical help,
If you can relax without alcohol,
If you can sleep without the aid of drugs,
Then You Are Probably…
The Family Dog!
And you probably thought I was going to get all spiritual or something!
During coaching sessions with clients, the problem of getting things done invariably raises its head at some point. Some people label themselves as procrastinators, or simply lazy, or tell themselves ‘well, I’m just disorganised’ if they only get around to starting new projects at the last minute. The truth is, you are organised, because you’re probably always doing, or not doing the same thing in the same way.
If you are having problems getting things done, change your strategy, and a good starting point is to pay attention to how you are talking to yourself. If you say to yourself, ‘I shouldn’t forget to file my tax return next Tuesday’, your brain hears ‘Forget the tax return,’ and of course you will. A client who was trying to lose weight kept telling herself ‘I mustn’t think about chocolate’, so her brain heard ‘Think about chocolate’, and she wondered why her dieting strategy wasn’t working! Try for a moment not to think of a pink elephant. What are you thinking about? I thought so!
Simply put, when you give yourself a command, do it in a way that is positive, and use the awesome power of your imagination. Here’s how:
Pick a challenge like creating a project plan, and imagine how much better your life will be when you’ve achieved this. Get excited about it. Sit comfortably, and float outside your body, and see yourself carrying out the task easily and effortlessly. Create vivid pictures, and put them where you already see things you’re passionate about. See what has to be done first, then what follows, and what comes next. Then, bang! – do the thing right away, and notice how easy it is!
Some martial artists use a similar approach. They observe the teacher doing something, then make a mental picture of doing it themselves, and then they step into the picture, and become familiar with the movements in their imagination. Chinese martial artists take the process one step further. They start by creating pictures in their mind of themselves performing a movement as perfectly as the teacher. They play these images over and over again, and then they turn the picture around, step inside the teacher, and then make the movements.
Use this simple, powerful technique to get things done now!
Stress is something that can easily raise its head when life becomes busy. Recently I was sent this via email and it struck a chord with me. Here it is for you to also enjoy:
A young lady confidently walked around the room while leading and explaining stress management to an audience; with a raised glass of water, and everyone knew she was going to ask the ultimate question, ‘half empty or half full?’….. she fooled them all… “How heavy is this glass of water?”, she inquired with a smile.
Answers called out ranged from 8 oz. to 20 oz.
She replied, “The absolute weight doesn’t matter. It depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute, that’s not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I’ll have an ache in my right arm. If I hold it for a day, you’ll have to call an ambulance. In each case it’s the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.” She continued, “and that’s the way it is with stress. If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as the burden becomes increasingly heavy, we won’t be able to carry on.”
“As with the glass of water, you have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again. When we’re refreshed, we can carry on with the burden – holding stress longer and better each time practiced. So, as early in the evening as you can, put all your burdens down. Don’t carry them through the evening and into the night… pick them up tomorrow.
Whatever burdens you’re carrying now, let them down for a moment. Relax, pick them up later after you’ve rested. Life is short. Enjoy it and the now ’supposed’ stress that you’ve conquered!”
We’ve all heard the phrase: “Knowledge is power.” (And of course, we associate power with success). Yet, this is 100% false.
Knowledge is not power.
For the world finds itself overflowed with highly educated people who remain broke. And right now, as you’re reading this there’s someone sunbathing on his or her own yacht as they thank themselves for dropping out of high school.
But real-life examples of successful dropouts aren’t what exposes the myth that “knowledge is power.”
A French dude named Gaspard-Gustave de Coriolis did in 1889 (you’ll see how in a second).
But first, let’s dive into fundamental physics.
Physics 101:
In physics, a fundamental lesson concerns itself with power.
Defined, “power” is the rate at which energy is converted. And the lesson continues on to define two forms of energy:
Potential Energy (which is the energy stored in a system — like your mind or body)
Kinetic Energy (which is energy driven by action).
In physics, potential energy doesn’t equate to power; it’s merely potential power.
The true form of power that everyone seeks is “Kinetic” power. A concept that French physicist Gaspard-Gustave de Coriolis uncovered in 1889. The word “kinetic” stems from the Greek word kinesis, which means motion. “Kinesis” is the same root as in the word cinema (referring to motion pictures).
So basically, true power (kinetic energy) is driven by action or application.
Thus, Knowledge is really “potential energy” (or “potential power”).
Whenever you hear anyone use the phrase in the future, kindly guide them through that physics lesson. If they look at you like you’re insane, take it as a compliment
Recently I received an email that had me thinking about how I spend my time. And the email offered to share with me a simple perspective shift that could help me clarify my priorities in life.
You may spend time on a variety of different activities in the course of a day. Some of these will only take up small slices of time, like 15 or 30 minutes. However, over the course of a year or longer, these small slices can really add up.
Here’s a little table showing how many 8-hour days you’ll devote to certain activities over the course of 1, 5, and 50 years based on how much time you devote to them in an average day. Eight hours is a typical workday for many people, so this will give you an idea of how much “work” you’re investing in these tasks over time.

Per 50 Years

46 days
228 days
2,281 days
2 hours

4,563 days
For example, if you average 30 minutes per day processing email, you’ll spend the equivalent of 23 8-hour days processing email this year. That’s equivalent to 4.6 weeks if you worked 40 hours per week. This means that you’re investing more than one full working month out of each year, just processing email. And over the course of 50 years, you’ll spend the equivalent of 4.6 working years doing nothing but processing email (assuming 50 work weeks per year at 40 hours per week).
And how easy is it to spend 30 minutes or more per day on email?
If this jolts you a bit, then it’s time to reassess how you’re investing your time. Do you really want to spend the equivalent of several years out of your life processing email? Checking Facebook? Watching TV? Would you deliberately dedicate 5-10 years of your life to any of those activities?
Having a long time perspective can sharpen your daily decisions. Wasting 15 minutes here and there may not seem like a big deal, but if you get into the habit of doing this every day, it means you’ll waste the equivalent of 2.3 years of your life over the next 50 years. Do you really think it’s wise to discard all that time as worthless?
What do you think? Does this perspective have you re-thinking how you spend your time… or not?
