Giving it a Go

I have been in aww of Jessica Watson and her achievement of sailing around the world solo at the age of 16. This has got me thinking as to what else are the youth of today up to. I have stumbled upon this video. If you have a few minutes to spare have a listen.

My point from this is that their personal achievements to get up and give it a go, in what they are passionate about are to be highly commended.

  • How I apply this to my life is asking myself what is it that I want to do (dream of) that I have not yet done? This could be from fear of failure, fear of offending someone, or one of many things.

What I have chosen to do is acknowledge this fear, come up with a strategy to make my dream a reality and give it a go.

  • If these kids can get up and play like that and Jessica Watson can sail around the world at 16, I know I can give it a go. The only thing stopping me is me!

I will leave this with what is it that you dream of and have not yet done? What or who is stopping you?

Defeat may be a stepping stone or a stumbling block according to the way you accept it.

After an accident left me paraplegic I had a choice to get on with my life despite the challenges or wallow in self pity. I chose to focus on what was good and what I could do. I have gone from strength to strength and my life has got better and better. When I talk to groups in my capacity as an Inspirational Speaker, people regularly feed back to me that I do more than a lot of others. I am truly happy despite challenges most can’t imagine.

I constantly see people who are physically fit and healthy yet I believe more disabled than me due to the way they think and what they believe.

Insanity - what is it?

One definition of insanity is to believe that you can keep doing the same thing you have always done and achieve a different result.

So if we want to achieve different results than what we are currently getting we need to do something different. Often the first thing we need to do is to think about it differently because we attract what we think about.

Your subconscious mind thinks in pictures and doesn’t register the “in between” words we all use. For example if you think I don’t want to be broke anymore, your subconscious mind will not register the “I don’t want to be” part and will focus on the “broke” bit and that is what you will attract to yourself.

Instead of thinking about what you don’t want, think about what you do want. For example, money is easy to come by and I am a master at attracting it to me. Your subconscious mind can’t tell what is real and what isn’t and if it believes what you are thinking about is real, then, it will get your conscious mind to take the steps to make it a reality.
The next step is to put yourself in the path of new opportunities or recognize the ones that are already around you and do something about them before they pass you by. There are lots of ways to expose yourself to new opportunities. There are a multitude of wealth creation seminars you could attend. You could join a networking group to meet people looking for similar things or network with people you meet at seminars that have a similar mindset.

If you spend your time with people that don’t believe they can achieve more than they are currently achieving then how likely are they to believe that you can achieve more than you are currently achieving? Are they likely to support you in your beliefs? That is why people say that you are who you associate with.

If someone tells you, that won’t work, make sure that you question what there qualification is to advise you of that. They may be right but they may have very little idea what they are talking about and buying into their story could cost you the opportunity of a lifetime.

Changing what we think, believe and do can have a huge impact on our future and often the required changes are quite minor.

Are you doing what you need to do in order to get different results or will you continue to get the same results because you continue to do the same things?

Recreation

What is it? It may be elusive at the moment but let’s check it out.
Notice that this word, recreation, has the idea of “re-creating” in it. What does it mean to you to re-create yourself? If you could do anything you wanted and time, money and fear were not factors, what would that be?

Make a list of all the things you love to do. Then place a date beside each as to the last time you did them.

Make a list of all the things you loved doing as a child.

Make a list of all the places you’d visit if time, money and fear were not factors.

What would you do for fun and/or lifestyle if you won lotto?

If you could choose your vocation, what would that be?

Write your answers in a journal. These questions, if you give them the deserved thought, will get you to KNOW what you enjoy doing most.

The Big Three?

What are the BIG three things that people want more of in their lives?

You got it. . . Happiness, Money and better Relationships.
How are you going in these three departments?

Are you as happy as you’d like to be? Do you have all the wealth you want?
Are your relationships as good as they can be or are you left a little wanting
in one area or another or perhaps all three?

Well the really, really great news is that YOU can have it all!!

Who said that you shouldn’t be rich beyond your wildest dreams, who said
that you don’t have a right to complete happiness and who was the dream snatcher who said you had to put up with mediocre relationships?

Don’t listen to any of them. It’s your birthright to have it all. I’m sure there wasn’t any one standing over the cots in your hospital nursery when you were born deciding which babies were worthy of the best life possible. . . so, what happened between birth and where you are now that changed this right or your perception of it?

How do you go about claiming what’s rightfully yours? How do you have all the happiness, wealth and outstanding relationships you could possibly want?
You simply don’t settle for less, you learn what it takes to ‘BE’ the best you possible; you learn to show up in your life as the most amazing individual and you never, ever settle for less than you are worth.

Understand that wealth has to be created in your mind first; happiness is a natural state and an attitude and relationships have to be cultivated and nurtured.

Getting what you want out of life involves going within. Go on this journey first or get used to life as it is.

Communication Needs - 10 Ways to

Here are 10 ways to make communication more enjoyable for everyone.

  1. Smile at strangers.  Some of us have taken our parents’ warnings to not talk to strangers a bit too far. Just because you smile at someone doesn’t mean you are inviting him to step over your boundaries.
  2. Refuse to get involved in ‘my story is worse than yours’ contests.  You don’t have to complain about the traffic, your kids, the significant other, the boss, just because everyone else is. Communicate the good and positive things in your life, rather than the negative things. This type of communications is much more enjoyable for those involved.
  3. We were given two ears and one mouth. Learn to listen twice as much as you speak. You’ll be considered a great conversationalist! You will also be more likely to truly understand what is being communicated to you.
  4. Be in the moment.  Keep your mind where your body is. If you allow yourself to be distracted you are more likely to miss the true nature of what is being communicated to you.
  5. Communicate acceptance with your eyes. Keep your eyes on your conversation partner. Let her know you are involved with her words.
  6. Speak with a smile. Open yourself to the conversation.
  7. Say please and thank you to every soul you meet. Gratitude begets appreciation. Appreciated people feel happier.
  8. Moods can be contagious. Deal with your mood before conversing.
  9. Be ready to laugh. Laugh loudly, laugh often. Adult’s average 12 laughs a day. Children laugh over 400 times a day.
  10. Breathe. Our bodies need a good supply of oxygen to function at peak performance.

Just imagine how much nicer our communication experiences would be if everyone we had to communicate with practiced the above ideas. To look at it from the other direction - if you come across someone that isn’t smiling or laughing or is clearly in a bad mood perhaps you could still practice the above things, and particularly the part about listening twice as much as you talk and find out why they are down. Often allowing someone to unload what is bothering them can make a huge difference to them resolving the problem.  You are meeting their communication needs.

Living With Balance

If you feel that life’s hectic pace leaves parts of your life lacking and that you’d like the merry-go-round called life to stop and let you off, you are not alone!!

There’s nothing new about the idea of work/life balance, although, for many of us, it can seem elusive as we try to keep everything together on the treadmill of life. The question to ponder, though, is “What do you do when you can’t keep up and the quality of your life suffers?”

Firstly, it’s important not to compare your life with others but to get totally honest with yourself about what it is you want out of life. Self awareness is the key stone to achieving life balance and making choices based on what’s best for you.

To start getting your life back in balance, we suggest you make a comprehensive list of everything you do in your week. Include the time spent with family, friends and at work. Remember the time spent watching TV and surfing the net also. The next step is to reflect and decide what you need to be doing with your time in order to feel happy and fulfilled. A great way to do this is to go out in time and do the ‘Rocking Chair Test’. That is, when you are 95, sitting in your rocking chair, and looking back over your life, what will you be grateful for and what will you regret not having done?

There are not too many people, who, when on their death beds, regret not having worked harder or having spent more hours at the office!!

Having done that, decide how can you better spend your time, (the one thing we all have the same amount of in each day), what do you value and what decisions can you make based on this so that you can live the life of your dreams and be the best you can be?
